A total of 378 minors were subjected to sexual abuse in the southeastern Turkish province of Şanlıurfa in the first six months of 2019, the Mezopotamya news agency reported.
Ninety-one of the victims were boys, while 287 were girls. It was also reported that 21 of the females became pregnant as a result of sexual abuse and bore babies.
The girls who gave birth were taken under state protection.
Victims were aged between 12 and 16, while perpetrators averaged 27 or 28 years of age.
Twenty-one out of the 378 sexual abuse cases involved incest.
Seventy-two of the victims married the perpetrators of the abuse, although it is believed that the actual number could be as high as 1,000 since not all incidents are reported.
