Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) has announced that 12 terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) members were killed in air operations carried out by Turkish air forces.
Twelve terrorists were killed in two separate air operations conducted in Şemdinli district of southeastern Hakkari province and Avasin-Basyan regions in northern Iraq.
The operations conducted against 8 terrorist PKK targets in Şemdinli and 7 more in Avasin-Basyan resulted in killing of 12 PKK members.
The PKK is designated as a “terrorist organization” by the United States (US) and the European Union (EU), as well as Turkey. The 32-year-old conflict, which has claimed more than 40,000 lives, halted in March 2013 as part of the settlement process initiated between the PKK and the Turkish government. However, the PKK ended the ceasefire in the summer of 2015.
